About CompressYourVideo

A free online video compressor that runs entirely in your browser. Your video file never leaves your device.

There is nothing for us to store, analyse, or sell, because nothing reaches us in the first place.

We built this because every existing tool either uploaded your file to their server (slow, privacy-hostile, often paid), buried compression behind technical jargon nobody understands, or gated the useful settings behind a $10/month subscription.

Our approach is the opposite. Pick a platform, WhatsApp, Discord, Gmail, Telegram, Instagram, TikTok, and the right encoder settings (bitrate, resolution, codec) are picked for you. Or pick a target file size and we hit it as closely as the math allows.

How it works

Compression runs inside your browser tab on your own device, using the same compression standards YouTube and Netflix use in their pipelines. On Chrome, Edge, and Safari 17 and later, your browser has a hardware-accelerated path that talks directly to your phone or laptop's video chip, so a typical clip finishes in seconds. Older browsers run a slower software path on the same device. Either way, your file never leaves your device.

Who built this

Built and maintained by the CompressYourVideo team. We answer emails personally, ship fixes within the week, and never see your video files because compression runs entirely on your device. See the blog for technical write-ups on browser-based video processing.
